Dr. Mahamid is currently a Research Professor at the Department of Civil and Material Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the field of structural engineering & structural mechanics. He is also a structural engineering consultant for multiple structural engineering firms in the US and abroad. He serves on several technical committees sponsored by ACI and ASCE/SEI and is the chair of the Reinforced Concrete Slab ACI-ASCE joint committee (ACI-ASCE 421). He authored and coauthored numerous journal and conference papers; he is the editor-in-chief of the upcoming Structural Engineering Handbook 5th edition and for Cross-Laminated Timber Design, 1st Edition, both books were published in May 2020; he is also an associate editor for the ASCE Practice Periodical on Structural Design and Construction Journal. Dr. Mahamid is a Fellow of ACI (F.ACI), a Fellow of ASCE (F. ASCE) and a Fellow of the Structural Engineering Institute (F.SEI) in recognition of his contributions to the profession.
He is a licensed Structural Engineer (SE) and Professional Engineer (PE & P.Eng) in multiple states in the US and Canada.
